How to dye hemp
You can use our hemp dying instructions to dye hemp clothing or hemp twine. Hemp twine and cord now comes in many different colors but some people still choose to dye thier own hemp.
First things first
Before dying your hemp you must know that you should only use Fiber reactive dyes. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE RIT DYE!!! If you allready have then you know that it doesn't work and that's why you're here. Rit is a multipurpose dye and it is junk. If you are dying a lot of hemp, you will want to use our Tie dying instructions. These instructions were designed for dying hemp, silk, cotton, and other natural fabrics. This is the same process that the professionals use for dying thes materials. If you are dying a smaller amount of hemp like 20 shirts or 5 or 6 spools of twine then you should use the kit that we sell here. It is called a tie dye kit but it works for dying all natural fabrics, and it's great for dying hemp.
Dying hemp jewelry
If you are dying hemp jewelry I suggest dying the hemp before making the jewelry. This gives the hemp jewelry a much cooler look in my opinion. Some people prefer to dye the jewelry afterwards. If that is the way you like to do it, that's fine too. You can make some pretty cool jewelry by dying the hemp afterwards as well. If you want multiple colors of hemp rope in your jewelry you will definately want to dye the hemp first. If you dye the hemp before making the jewelry you may want to wash it as well to get rid of the excess dye. If so keep reading on.
Washing hemp twine
The best way to wash hemp twine is by hand, however you can put the hemp in the washing machine. If you want to put your hemp into the washing machine to remove the excess dyes you should use the lowest and gentlest settings possible. Another handy pointer is to cut the hemp into strips a little longer than you need for your jewelry. The reason for cutting the hemp into strips is so that you don't open your washer and have a giant birds nest. I would suggest just washing the hemp by hand because it seems much easier to me. You don't end up with tangled hemp and hemp stuck in your washer. If you use a washer you should line dry your hemp or dry it in a pillow case.
